I focus on the disparities within communities of color and how they are disproportionately represented. I include how people lack access to nutritional foods and are not able to travel to obtain their food. My sources include multiple different forms of information regarding who food insecurity effects most, who is living within food deserts, overpriced nutritional food, unequal marketing strategies, the benefits and flaws of SNAP, transportation to grocery stores, the lack of supermarkets in areas in need, and ways to help combat these issues at hand. Although this topic has ties to inequality, conflict, and the environment, it is most heavily related to the idea of inequality. This topic relates to inequality because neighborhoods of color are the majority of people who are food insecure. My topic relates to conflict because these people who are struggling are not receiving all of the assistance that they are in need of. Lastly, my topic relates to the environment because those affected by food insecurity, or those who are within a food desert have commonalities in regard to where they are living. Those in need will receive food and a comprehensive nutrition education to improve their individual health. They will then work with the Food Farmacy staff to obtain healthy foods such as fresh produce and many other nutritional items. People also receive professional help from a dietician who will recommend food tailored to their underlying health issues and educate the participants so they can make informed health-conscious and budget-friendly food decisions, which can improve overall health long-term.
