The Boston Latin School was the first school established in the 13 colonies. This school was designed for only sons of certain social classes. The sons were destined for leadership positions in church, states or the courts. The school have some amazing alumni that include 4 Massachusetts born signers of the Declaration of Independance which are Benjermin Franklin, Robert Treat Payne, john Hancock and Samuel Adams.

The first free school was open in Virginia in 1635. However, the education in the Southern colonies was more typically provided at the children's homes by parents or tutors.

The Massachusetts Law of 1647 is also known as the Old Deluder Satan Act was passed. This law stated that every town of at least 50 families would hire a schoolmaster who would teach the children how to read and write. That at least 100 families in a town would hire a Latin grammar schoolmaster who would prepare the students to attend Havard College.

1710 Cristopher Dock

Christopher Dock was one of Pennsylvania's most famous educators arrived at Montgomery country, PA and created a school. In 1770 he created a book called Schul-Ordnung meaning School Management. this book was the first printed book about teaching in the AMerican Colonies.

Noah Webster had such a huge dissatisfaction with the English textbooks at the time. The textbook was named A Grammatical Institute of the English Language, it is consisting of 3 different volumes a Spelling book (later named American Spelling Book), a grammar book, and a reader.
