I think a theme that S.E. Hilton was projecting in her novel, the outsiders, is that within stereotypes of people, everyone is their own person. What I interpret this to mean is that even though Ponyboy is classified as Greaser by those around him, he still enjoys sunsets and poetry. Additionally, you can see in the novel that the stereotype of a Greaser really starts to get to him emotionally, and you start to see how harmful it is to be viewed more as an object toward someone rather that your authentic self.

I think that one of the main ideas of the novel for the outsiders is that people stereotype others without knowing the person in the book it talks about how much ponyboy loves sunsets but anyone who doesn't know I'm would just think that he doesn't care for things like that because he's part of a gang where there stereotype is not caring about others
