The technique of icons on glass dates back to the seventeenth century in Transylvania, a region located in the center of Romania. The icons were painted by Romanian peasants because the materials were easier to obtain and much cheaper. The drawing is naïve, the black outline is an important feature, the colors are vivid and natural.
