I am going to incorporate this in my 10-week course so that students who are enjoy the feeling of an in-person learning environment can tune in and participate in a lecture. I will also try and bring in guest lecturers who are experts in the field of Forensic Psychology (perhaps the authors of the casebook).

This 10-week online Forensic Psychology course provides students with basic and more specific information regarding this area of specialization for psychologists. The course provides an overview of the relevant methods used in the practice of Forensic Psychology. Students are presented weekly with a number of topics in Forensic Psychology, which includes legal questions for which judges and attorneys can be informed by forensic psychological evaluation. These legal questions will include criminal, civil, and family law. Specific cases, in the form of reports, are used to provide relevant examples and discussion questions. Course objectives are met through class lecture, discussion, assigned readings, current events, and case examples. This course integrates critical legal information and warrants important class discussion. Students use online tools throughout the course to facilitate learning and demonstrate transfer of learning across real-world contexts.

As my class tends to have students of all ages from different areas of the country (and sometimes around the world), I do my best to incorporate diverse learning opportunities. I reach out to individual students who may be struggling to help teach specific learning strategies. Along those same lines, I constantly encourage students to contact me with any questions or to schedule office hours if they want to discuss materials from the course. I do my best to reply to student’s emails within a few hours to establish an open line of communication. I also give frequent and feedback to students on their assignments so they can understand why they are earning a certain grade, specifically what they did well and also what they need to work continue to work on. I also encourage students to capitalize on their interests in both the current event presentation and the course project. They are allowed to choose their article and their topic, and whether they want to work as a group or an individual, so that they remain engaged in the process.
