Beans are a warm weather plant that grow best when the air temperature warms in spring. The soil temperature should be no lower than 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and preferably closer to 70 to 80 degrees F for best results with germination, reveals Cornell University.

Central America Climate:

The climate of the Central American countries, which include Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, is tropical with distinct rainy and dry seasons. The temperature is colder and dryer in mountainous areas and warmer and humid in areas closer to the Caribbean Sea.

Onions are adapted to a wide range of temperatures and they are frost tolerant. Leaf, root, and bulb development occurs in cool temperatures between 55° to 75°F. Optimal onion leaf growth occurs at 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C). Once bulbing has begun onions easily tolerate temperatures higher than 75°F.

West Asia Climate:

Three climatic zones, however, characterize West Asia: a continental climate in the northern regions; a dry zone, except where northerly winds bring moisture to the mountains, to the south; and a Mediterranean climate along the western edges.

They grow best in Hardiness Zones 1-5. In order to form healthy bulbs, they need to experience at least 10 weeks of cold. This period of cold exposure is known as vernalization. If the garlic plant does not experience a sufficient period of vernalization, it will not produce a bulb.

Central Asia has a distinctive continental arid and semi-arid climate with hot, cloudless, dry summers and moist, relatively warm winters in the south and cold winters with severe frosts in the north.

Navy bean soup gets its name from its origins as a staple on US warships. Due to its low cost and high nutritional value, it was an inexpensive way to feed hungry sailors and soldiers. It first appeared in a Naval cookbook in the early 1900's but had been around for much longer than that. The common, small white bean used in this soup is native to the Americas. There are many names and versions that encompass the family of ham and bean soups. The US Senate restaurant's famous "Senate Soup" is a very close cousin to Navy Bean soup.

United States Climate:

The overall climate in the United States of America (USA) is temperate, with notable exceptions. Alaska has an Arctic tundra climate, while Hawaii and South Florida have a tropical climate. The Great Plains are dry, flat and grassy, turning into arid desert in the far West.
