At around 650 BCE, the story of Perseus appeared for the first time on pottery in Greece. Depicting stories and myths, especially about Greek gods, became very popular around this time, which explains Perseus' appearance. Also, around this time Greece built its earliest large scale marble sculpture, demonstrating the advancements in architecture at the time. These things could've influenced Perseus' myth because the way it's depicted in the arts is the way many Greek people saw it.

Perseus lives on the island of Seriphus, where he landed in a chest with his mother that was cast into the sea. Polydectes, the king who wants to marry Danae (Perseus' mother), plots to get rid of Perseus because he may object to the idea.
---
I don't remember the title of the song but the mood was very calm and about a person being happy that they're home. I think this fits into the first stage very well because Perseus doesn't know the journey he's about to embark on, so his world is calm.

I think that Perseus' story is very interesting because of who he fought and what his life was like before becoming a hero. He didn't want to leave his mom, showing how much he cared about his family. Medusa is an interesting person herself - mainly because of the snakes on her head - and the number of Greek gods that aided Perseus in his journey is also quite interesting because they all had faith that he could do it.

1. Gods are involved in the process.
-Why?
Because higher beings such as gods were seen all powerful, they had a huge presence in myths during the early periods.
2. The hero fought entities that weren't human.
-Why?
Because "the bad guys" in mythology were usually people who didn't come from Earth, seeing as they would be normal humans with no supernatural abilities if they did.
3. Both characters came from Earth.
-Why?
Because the ordinary world is where additional characters come and cause chaos. Everything 'evil' usually comes from a place that isn't Earth.

1. Perseus returns home safely.
-Why?
Because the purpose of saving his mother would be lost if he died along the way; his journey would have been useless.
2. The gods help Perseus along the way.
-Why?
Because gods in Greek mythology played a huge role in Greek society. They were heavily respected and worshipped, and many stories involve them being helpful entities.
3. The main character is a human.
-Why?
Because if Perseus was a god, he wouldn't have needed as much supernatural aid and the "hero's journey" wouldn't be the same. Help from the gods explains how certain characters go through their experiences.

The gods give him Hermes' winged sandals (so he can fly), Hades' helmet of invisibility, and a sword to decapitate Medusa.
