The last article that presented a metaphor of the theoretical framework to a blueprint for a house created a clear picture of what the theoretical framework must be in order to create a dissertation study that is strong, organized, and makes sense to the reader. The choice of theory must be clear. The list of theories helped me differentiate between theoretical and conceptual frameworks. It also cleared up the difference between theoretical and conceptual. The theoretical framework in the choice of theory provides the lens to support the thinking and analysis of your data. Conceptual Framework is your core concepts on your dissertation topic and the theoretical framework is the exsisting theory that applies.

The steps in the Grant & Asanloo article can serve as a guide through each part of designing research. I feel more clear about theoretical versus conceptual frameworks. I am still having trouble with one of the first steps: "Consider several theories that intersect nicely with your epistemological values and broaden your way of thinking about the concepts in your study". How do I identity the available theories in the first place? I saw the list, pgs. 14-15, but those are general categories for theories. I feel like I need a list of specific theories for education, math education, and math. Do I build this list myself? How do I know that I'm not overlooking or unaware of some critical theory?
