I'll be inviting my participants to decide on their own pseudonyms (with some limits - not nicknames or other names by which they are known)

I also like to start with a more informal chat, asking how they are, how their course is going (for student interviewees), what they're enjoying about it.

For my thesis research, I'm asking them to share a photo of their writing space and getting them to talk to me about that space, e.g., why it's set up that way, how it feels to them, etc. So something that isn't immediately jumping into questions but letting them start by (sort of) being in charge.
