When it came to the island where the witch turned his men into pigs Odysseus agreed to stay with her for a year so that his men could be turned back into humans. But whenever they got to the Cyclops island place and were escaping the Cyclops (son of Poseidon) he was yelling these things to get the Cyclops mad and that didn't work in favor for him and his men. Penelope waited for Odysseus for 20 years because she had hope that he was still alive and was still out there. Yeah, she could've waited longer but didn't need to, in the 20 years of being apart Odysseus has cheated on Penelope with many women.
