Purple is dominant

Procedure:

1. First, we gathered our materials.

2. Next, we placed our seed discs into the petri dishes and moistened them with a small amount of water using the syringe.

3. After that, we labeled the petri dishes P1, P2, and F1.

4. Then, we filled the tupperware with 1cm of water and placed our 3 petri dishes into the tupperware.

5. Finally, we placed our petri dishes under the light to let them grow!

Conclusion #1

After three days of letting our plants grow to their full potential we are able to conclude that when a purple plant is crossed with a green plant, the offspring is purple. Therefore, making purple dominant. We had a total of three petrie dishes. The P1 dish was filled with green plants, the P2 dish was filled with purple plants, and the F1 dish was filled with purple plants. Our hypothesis tested true that purple is dominant.

After concluding that purple was dominant over green we then crossed two F1's. We predicted that the F2 would be completely purple. After waiting a couple days we came to find the our F2's were both green and Purple. This means that our F1's were heterozygous so by crossing two F1 plants our F2's had both green and purple plants. As an entire class there were 128 F2 plants grown. Out of those 128 plants 89 of them were purple and 39 were green. Even though the F2 plants were heterozygous it is still clear that purple was dominant over green

When we checked our petri dishes, P1 and P2 were purple, but F1 was green. This shows that purple is dominant over green in this lab.
