1.) What do I want my story to be about? Why is my story important to me? Why do I think this story should be important to others?

Gun violence has ravaged the country for decades and I want to focus on how the great amount of guns in the US has impacted gun violence.

2.) How does the government (local, state, federal, etc.) contribute to the issue I'm studying?

Any kind of government in the US, from local to federal can create gun laws or restrictions to prevent gun violence.

3.) Who are the stakeholders involved in my issue? In other words, who is impacted by my issue? Who is working to address my issue? Who is fighting to resist changes regarding policy surrounding my issue?

The right to bear arms is a highly politicized amendment in the constitution. Every congressman, senator, justice, and president all agree that gun violence needs to stop, but cannot agree on the means of achieving that goal. There are many organizations in the country working to end gun violence by pressuring politicians, buying guns on the streets, protesting, and more. For the most part, democrats in government want stricter gun laws to reduce and prevent shootings, while republicans want good people to keep their guns so that in the event of a shooting, they can put a stop to it. No argument is objectively bad, but I think prevention is smarter than arming more people.

4.) Who are important people and organizations that deserve mention in my segment of the podcast?

March for our lives, an organization that came to be in 2018 after the Parkland shooting, The NRA a polar opposite to organizations against guns and by far the most popular, the recent presidents that have or have not impacted gun control and the politics around it like Trump who vowed to veto and bill on guns that came to him, or Biden, who considers gun control of the utmost importance.

5.) What are tactics that changemakers are using to address my issue? What are tactics that resisters are using to stymie change regarding my issue?

The side that is supporting gun control is protesting on the streets and pressuring politicians. Also, with some of these organizations' mass following, their influence on people and bringing more to their cause is noticed by the country, thus raising awareness and making change more likely.

6.) What are the most interesting things I've learned as a result of my research? What do I absolutely want to include in my segment?

Sometimes, the simplest answer to your question is the right one. For instance, many believe that the US has so much gun violence mostly just because there are so many guns. This along with all the other factors mix together very poorly with mental illness, gangs, and racism.

7.) What changes, if any, would I like to see as a result of the research I've done?

I want the people to hear our podcast to learn something about gun violence and how it affects our country and people. Maybe it could even inspire someone to go out to make a change.

8.) Where are there gaps/holes in my research? What new information do I need to seek out and discover before I begin drafting my script?

I want to understand the perspective of the people who work in gun violence prevention organizations because some of them have witnessed gun violence firsthand and watched it scar their community, which I imagine is why some people join these groups in the first place.

1.) What do I want my story to be about? Why is my story important to me? Why do I think this story should be important to others?
I want my story to be about the pursuit of safe gun control laws and how people, communities and organizations have been affected. While most people can agree on what should and shouldn't be legal, the actual practice of bringing people onboard has been difficult. I interviewed a youth organization, United Playaz, to give them an opportunity to share their stories and strategies of facing the issue.

2.) How does the government (local, state, federal, etc.) contribute to the issue I'm studying?
California law is very strict on gun ownership, communities with gun problems and overall gun legislation. The process of getting a license, buying a firearm and keeping both of them is very difficult and largely inactive in curbing gun attacks, injuries and deaths.

3.) Who are the stakeholders involved in my issue? In other words, who is impacted by my issue? Who is working to address my issue? Who is fighting to resist changes regarding policy surrounding my issue?
Gun owners, politicians, gun manufacturers, community leaders and citizens all hold a stake in the issue. People have taken it upon themselves to address the issue to remedy the government's inactivity. Gun manufacturers, gun owners and Republican politicians all resist progressive gun laws.

4.) Who are important people and organizations that deserve mention in my segment of the podcast?
United Playaz, Brady Foundation, Obama, Biden and Trumps views on the issue (add more as research and interviews continue).

5.) What are tactics that changemakers are using to address my issue? What are tactics that resisters are using to stymie change regarding my issue?
The media minimizes some aspects of gun crime such as gun suicides and gang violence while giving more attention to stories about school and police shootings.

6.) What are the most interesting things I've learned as a result of my research? What do I absolutely want to include in my segment?

Many (if not most) Republicans support progressive gun laws. The gun suicide rate is almost double the homicide rate. Almost every type of gun violence and its related problems are increasing.

7.) What changes, if any, would I like to see as a result of the research I've done?
I'd like to see reasonable legislation that still allows citizens to own firearms, but with more emphasis on safes and screening standards for gun licenses.

8.) Where are there gaps/holes in my research? What new information do I need to seek out and discover before I begin drafting my script?

I want to talk to a conservative perspective about gun laws. I think that it's really important to make sure different views are represented and I'll research about specifically conservative-oriented information.

I want my part of the story to be focused on mental health and how Mental illness has a place in gun violence only 4% of gun violence is committed to the mentally ill, the sad thing is that the mentally ill get blamed. I also would want to talk about the NRA and "The National Rifle Association (NRA) campaigns against all forms of gun control in the US and argues that more guns make the country safer."It is among the most powerful special interest lobby groups in the US, with a substantial budget to influence members of Congress on gun policy, and how completely insane it is. The Legislative branch has worked to pass background check laws. The people directly impacted by gun violence is a wide range of people starting with just high school students, victims of school shootings, and poverty filled neighborhoods that are targeted gun violence and, The firearms industry and gun lobby are currently targeting minority communities in their marketing in response to long-term stagnation in the traditional gun market of white men. Places like Giffords are working towards getting state senators to sign bills. I think that some important people that should be mentioned in our podcast are the interviews, specifically the ones from organizations working towards putting an end to gun violence. Changemakers are trying to pass background checks with waiting periods, and trying to spread awareness for gun safety if you own a gun. Changemakers are using talents like finding community leaders and finding people that will help eliminate gun violence in their community, people that will help talk to people about if there affiliated with guns. Something very interesting that I've learned while researching is that mental health only contributes to 4% of gun violence and that 80% of gun owners support background checks. I need to seek out if there's any less known laws that have been passed that have worked
