The rustling of leaves and the whispering of the wind enhanced the drama, giving the narrative emotional depth. This connects to how sound in play can evoke responses and inspire imaginative action.

• Movement: The swaying trees and fluttering flowers brought movement into the experience, mirroring the emotional journey of the characters in the story. The rhythm of the wind dictated the pace, influencing both my physical actions and the narrative flow. This movement aligns with how children naturally engage with their surroundings through physical interaction, which is integral to dramatic play.

• Drama: The interaction between the tree, flowers, and wind created a dramatic storyline where nature became both the setting and the characters. By imagining the tree as a protector and the flowers as vulnerable friends, I transformed the environment into a stage for imaginative play, which echoes children's ability to animate the world around them during play.

At times, I felt calm, soothed by the gentle sway of the trees, while the stronger gusts of wind made me feel energized and eager to explore. Overall, I was reminded of childhood memories, particularly how the wind and trees would inspire imaginative play, where simple environments became magical worlds.

Additionally, the reading on imaginary friends (Raising Children Network, 2023) explores how children create relationships with imaginary characters as a way of processing emotions and navigating social situations. In my narrative, the tree and flowers function as imaginary friends that help the "child" protagonist work through themes of friendship, protection, and communication. This resonates with how children often use their imaginary play to make sense of their relationships and the world around them.

I see the potential for using outdoor spaces to facilitate nature-based dramatic play, where children can assign roles to natural elements and create their own narratives. This supports not only creativity but also social-emotional learning, as children work through interpersonal themes like friendship, cooperation, and problem-solving through their play.

In my future practice, I will prioritise opportunities for children to interact with nature, incorporating drama, sound, and movement to enrich their imaginative play. This approach challenges the often structured, indoor play environments in early childhood settings, promoting a more holistic, flexible approach that embraces outdoor learning.
