It`s because that is what friends are really for. They help each other and support each other. Even if she had the chance to really go back to her homeland, she needs to help her friends. If Nukilik returns back home, there will be not enough help for the Endangereds. If Nukilik stays to help, there will be a chance for rescuing both ferrets alive when they were suddenly moved out of the Ark. All in all, I really think that it is safe to say that Nukilik has to go save both ferrets from danger. If she still has the chance to go back home after rescuing the ferrets, that is even better!
