The story was so cute and simple, but the illustrations were fantastic. I loved Mr Watkins' style. I got these books from a random perusal of what's available on Wake County Public Library's Overdrive. I enjoyed all 7 that I read, for different reasons. But probably my favorite was Llama Llama Loves to Read. If I have to choose just one it is, Library Mouse A Friend's Tale. The illustrations in this book were so vivid and yet warm at the same time that I felt as though I could jump right into the book. These books I have come to love as a child. If I had to choose one to be my favorite, it would be "Love You Forever." I loved how the author explains the true meaning of unconditional love through the relationship between a mother and her son by a simple song: "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be." As I read the story, I could picture myself being young again and hearing my mom sing those words to me. It felt so real that I even cried as I read the book. The illustrations were vivid, the plot and the characters were breathtaking, and, most importantly, the song that the mother sang to the boy was filled with the forever feeling of unconditional love. If I had to pick one, my favorite book from this assignment is Boxitects by Kim Smith. I loved this text so much because I related to the protagonist. The first thing I noticed about Meg was her springy, curly hair. Having curly hair myself, I loved seeing this depicted in a children's book. Additionally, I loved the conflict depicted between two strong female characters. Both Meg and Simone are clearly passionate about constructing elaborate designs with cardboard boxes. While the two clash constantly, they push each other to improve their skills. By Tom Percival was the one I related to the most. As a child and even now, I tend to worry about things until the worry gets too big. I love the illustrations depicting what the worry looks like (to me it looked like sour candy). Big feelings are hard to talk about and in the end when she finds someone with a worry just like her and they talk it out and their worry goes away. Both were gorgeously illustrated, with heart-warming stories that can teach students life lessons. It was my favorite because of how it deals with the topic of bullying. It offers realistic ways for students to deal with bullies without resorting to the bully’s behavior. It also shows the importance of those witnessing others being bullied to stand up for them and how they can so.
