One of the discussions which will take place while going though this course relate to two very important concepts: literacy theory and literacy criticism.
It is important for students of the course to understand beforehand that many experts of the area disagree that there is a distinction between these two ideas, arguing that these are rather similar whereas others claim just the opposite.
The perspective chosen for this course can be defined as an act of not only evaluating and sharing an opinion about a particular work of literature, but going though a deep analysis of it, possibly bringing a social, cultural or historical views into discussion.
On the other hand, we have literacy theory as a type of literacy criticism which will adopt one or more specific perspectives in order to develop such analysis about the literary work in discussion. This perspective could be the based on a scientific, philosophycal psychological, and so forth.
With the course, the student can come to a place where he/she can not only work on critics of literature but also interpret them well enough to develop theories based on various solid perspectives.
