This begins with a special Kharma (a sweet dish) breakfast, which is vermicelli cooked in dried-date milk, raisins, almonds and other nuts. Moreover, crowds are hurrying to buy fruit, meat, and sweets as well as new clothes and jewellery at local bazaars.
As part of the celebration of the birth of a new baby in a family, sweets are distributed and an animal sacrificial offering is also made, one goat for a girl and two for a boy, with the animal meat distributed between the poor or between friends and relatives. Food is also part of a ritual to celebrate an infant who is six or seven months old. Using a silver spoon, sisters and relatives insert rice pudding in the mouth of the child, and a drop of chicken broth is also placed in the mouth. The adults then hold an elaborate dinner following this ritual, ending with a special dessert called kheer (Pakistan).
Normally, greetings are between members of the same sex. Males prefer to shake hands with each other, but they may both hug and shake hands until a stronger relationship is formed. Generally, females embrace and kiss each other. Pakistanis do not hurry greetings and they will take the time to inquire about the general well-being of an individual, family, and how they do business (Guide to Pakistan: Pakistani Etiquette, Customs & Culture).

Another traditional recipe is the use of yogurt to marinate meat. Instead of the use of spices and curry for the main dish, the typical side dish is plain rice. Another popular specialty is lentils. In the south, the food is more exotic and heavily spiced, while in the north, simple barbecued meat is always the main dish. Any beef, fowl, or seafood is typically curried, and frying is the traditional cooking process. Another widely used recipe ingredient, Ghee, which is clarified butter, is frequently used for frying.
