I believe Barbarian is an early look into what we can expect horror films to be like in the future based on the issues, and themes it tackles. For example it heavily emphasizes societal problems such as sexual assault, poverty, motherhood, and also the way Air b n b's have become a new way of experiencing travel. I do not think it was a mistake that they included a sub plot about Justin Longs character being accused of sexual assault, and I think it was very intentional that the director had Justin killed at the end of the film as kind of a consequence for his actions. Also, like Candyman barbarian tackles poverty and in my opinion the mother figure in the film represents what the average person doesn't see if they don't live in poverty ridden areas, but with the homeless man he knew what that house consisted of because he lived in that environment. I also think this film paves the way for storytelling in horror films as a whole because instead of just focusing on the main premise of the story, we get a background of what the neighborhood was like before it became poverty like. The way this film exposes the change in people living win these areas over the years reminds me of the show called them which main premise is how white people saw black people moving into their neighborhoods as a problem. One last point I would like to make about this film is how it was sort of a scary look into the problem in society with woman not being able to do what they want with their body (Hint: abortion laws), and how this mother figure in the film just wanted to have a baby to love but was made out to be a monster which she was made into a monster because of the male figure in the film which I do not believe to be a coincidence .]]> 2023-03-20 22:21:12 UTC https://padlet.com/bgilson01_2/xmquni3t03i5wnl8/wish/2524318922
