Activity idea: Looking at multiple perspectives in Othello and in real life

In Othello we see characters interpreting the similar events in different ways (ex when the Turkish fleet is fleeing to Rhodes and the Venetian generals consider the reasons why)

We could have students look at why one character believes one thing and another character believes another thing and how their individual perspectives inform their mindset (or something). Could be a creative writing component (if there isn't enough information about a character) or maybe they could make inferences from the text

THEN

they could take these skills and apply them to a current event (or something) by looking at perspectives of real life people and considering why they might inform their positions on an issue

or MAYBE

they can find an article they find persuasive and consider what it is that makes it persuasive (rhetorical devices etc)

or MAYBE

both??? in one activity or two (or maybe one actvity over two days idk)

Maybe somewhat similar to working with current events, but have students report on an event in the play (ex. the death of Desdemona and Othello) and interview multiple characters to get their interpretation of the events (ex. Cassio, Iago, Rodrigo (did he die? maybe not Rodrigo)).

Students would have to put themselves in the shoes of the characters they use to write from their perspectives and perhaps consider which characters are persuasive/manipulative (Iago) and which are unsure/easily convinced of events (Othello, Rodrigo, etc)

just spitballing here
