It is supposed to start taking effect by 2035. The reason for this is to try and decrease climate change. By 2026, they want 35% of vehicles to be hybrid or fully electric. Many popular vehicle companies have already or will be coming out with electric versions of their most popular vehicles. Though this may sound like a great idea to help the environment, it could lead to some problems. One concern is that not everyone living in California is gonna be able to afford an electric car/vehicle. In the State of California, a law has been passed that bans all gas and or diesels cars. The state has until 2035 to get rid of all gas powered vehicles by then. But soon in the upcoming years the percentage has to go down to at least 50%. This law has been made to bring down carbon emissions and reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.
