         <description><![CDATA[<p>Using cognates is a fantastic idea until it's not :) It is easy to assume that students have academic language in their L1 when they don't. For example: "democracy" and "democracia" are cognates, but students usually don't know what those concepts are in any language unless we explicitly teach them. </p>]]></description>

This is transferrable to more than just this one word, and it is helpful in multiple subject areas. </p></li><li><p>this is helpful for multiple levels of learners -- we are noticing a need for this in both Read 180 up to AS/AP levels (of English, because we are both English teachers) </p></li><li><p>Framing language work (reading, writing, thinking) as WORK.
