Usually if the beak is too small then the bird can't get the bugs, worms, seed, and other food from the ground, therefore not surviving when the drought comes and makes the bugs go deeper into the ground where there is more water. The next November of 1977, there were 186. that is a drop os 565 finches all in one year, not to mention that they still had babies birds during this time too.
