According to the New York State Department of Education: Food and Nutrition, the nutritional requirements for children aged 6 months-2 years and 3-5 years are as follows:

6 months-2 years:

Breast milk or iron-fortified infant formula, iron-fortified infant cereal, fruits and vegetables, and protein foods. Softer foods are better and less likely for a child to choke on.

The 6-to-12-month period is characterized by rapid growth and development, providing the essential nutrients to support these milestones. Babies around six months start consuming solid foods, which can interfere with their levels of iron and how much they intake. Many formulas designed for 6-12 months may contain higher levels of iron to support their growing iron stores.

3-5 years old:

As the child strengthens their muscles, variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, a variety of protein foods is a great source of nutritional and healthy foods that can help make their muscles stronger.

Breakfast can include items such as whole grain cereal, fruit, and low-fat milk. Lunch could include a lean or high in protein meat, vegetables, whole grain bread, and a dairy product. Afternoon snack might be a piece of fruit and a whole grain cracker.

Students who enroll within my center will all be required to have the common childhood vaccines—DTaP, MMR, polio, and varicella—are required for children to enroll in kindergarten in almost every state (CDC., 2022).

Parents will also have to have proof their child was vaccinated. This prevents any illnesses to spread throughout the center. Children who are younger, have strong immune systems but that doesn't mean they can't get sick. Having these requirements helps prevent spread illness.

Resource: State school immunization requirements and vaccine exemption laws. (2022).

Students will have a strict schedule on how often their hands are washed throughout the day. They will wash their hands before every meal, as well as after. Students will also be required to wash their hands after using the bathroom. Hand sanitizer is necessary when handling any tissues, sneezing, or coughing.

Cleaning and disinfecting tables and chairs is important especially after a child may be sick or come across the start of a fever. Cleaning tables and chairs is necessary before and after every meal. Allowing children to help clean around the age of 3-5 years old is a great chance to help them grow and gain independence also. They can help wipe down certain surfaces before and after they are contained.
