Troy is overweight and very self conscious. through the book you are listening from his position and you see exactly what troy is thinking and what he is feeling. This is a conflict because Troy's self esteem effects him in many ways badly.  Another conflict is kinda Curt versus Troy, because Troy accepts Curt's invitation to be his drummer; Accept Troy hides the fact that he does not know how to play.
