Freda invited me to come. I whakapapa from Greece but my turangawaewae I think, if that is possible, is the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I sailed down to NZ on the (second) Rainbow Warrior in 1995. Took us 2 1/2 months to get here after crossing the Panama Canal. I was 31 years old. I am now 60 both existentially exhausted and incredibly pissed off. After 35 years in the international environmental justice movement I have come to believe that we are all on some sort of weird collective suicide mission.. I have been wondering whether that is a result of collective unprocessed traumas. Decades of wars, invasions, terrorist attacks, deaths. My existential question has now become “Do we have time to figure out a way to help each other heal together in time to stop the Armageddon that will be runaway climate change?” I have this feeling (and personal experience) that what you all call the ACE people in all our cultures might be the ones that will be on the forefront leading everyone else through.
