What is an "Observation"

If a provider is observing a student in the natural environment and noting the students performance as it relates to the area of suspected disability- this is considered an authentic observation and OT/PT should be listed on the planning form.

Note: if a therapist is making general impressions from the students performance completing certain skills and simultaneously interacting with the student- this is NOT an observation and should not be labeled as such in the Part 1 report.

Authentic observations should be at least 15-20 minutes in length, specifying the date the observation occurred and noting the students behavior/performance during the observation relevant to the area of suspected disability.

Motor team supervisors are partnering with TAG to develop a tool to better gauge workload in our assignments. We will be comparing standard values of our team with SLP standard values and those obtained from other PT/OT supervisors around the state. If you would like to take part in providing data for this project, please reach out to your supervisor. We will begin surveying selected staff through scheduled phone calls beginning in February.

When the OEC receives a parent complaint about a student not receiving FAPE, the office will often look to the progress reports to determine if the school district is delivering FAPE. The premise of the SETT Framework is identifying the characteristics of a Student, the Environments in which the student learns and grows, and Tasks required to be an active learner in those environments before trying to identify a system of Tools that enables the student to actively engage in the tasks in the environments.
