Chapter 4: The Self

Chapter 4 (pg. 135) talks about the self-concept which is like desires, beliefs, feelings, and hopes that we have for and about ourselves. Our self-esteem, how others view us, how we view ourselves, our interactions with others, comparing ourselves to others, and our social experiences all play a part in our self-concept. I chose this song to go with this chapter because the girl talks about her insecurities and she wonders if she changes things about herself if she will feel better and then maybe people will like her. She compares herself to other girls too. I feel like the song highlights how comparing yourself, how you view yourself, and negative interactions with others can all affect our self-concept and self-esteem and make us view ourselves in a negative way. I actually don't even really like this song anymore but it came to my mind when reviewing this chapter and I think it really goes.

Chapter 5: Attitudes, Behavior, and Persuasion

I think this quote goes with Chapter 5 (pg.178) because attitudes can affect a situation for better or for worse and depending on your attitude it will affect your and the people around you behavior. Our persuasion skills can also affect other people's attitude about something. These are the themes of chapter 5 and this quotes sums it up by saying that we can choose our attitude in any circumstance which essentially is choosing our own path since our attitude is one of the things that affects the outcome in a situation. It is something that can't be taken from us and if we learn how to use our attitudes correctly it will be one of the factors in achieving different goals.

Chapter 8: Liking & Loving

This is an article about a girl who loses her memory due to illness and falls in love with her boyfriend all over again. Relationships whether it be family, friends, or romantic relationships take time to build. We turn to those we are close to for social support and they make us happy and boost our self-esteem. I chose this article because I think it is a cute example of a relationship that was lost because she lost her memory but the same person was able to make new memories with her and make her happy all over again and it relates to this chapter of the importance of having those special people in our lives that we love whether it's family, friends, or our partner and the importance of being able to maintain those relationships. (Chapter 8 is pg. 322)

Chapter 9: Helping & Altruism

I chose this image because it is from my favorite anime and the main character, Luffy, is always helping people even if he gets nothing out of it. In this particular scene and in the whole arc (Enies Lobby) he is helping save one of his crew members from death. Every person in his crew he has helped in some way before they joined. Chapter 9 (pg. 366) discusses how humans help each other with their time and energy with small or big acts. Helping others helps us as well because it makes us feel good about ourselves and we couldn't live without the help others provide us. In One Piece, the Straw Hats are always helping someone either just from the good of their hearts or because it helps them achieve their goal.

Chapter 6: Perceiving Others

I chose this tiktok for this chapter because it shows that everyone's perception of people is different. Our initial impressions of other people can be formed quite accurately in a very short time and sometimes we might think we know it all but sometimes those with more experience have better ability at perceiving others and know right away when someone is fake. We shouldn't judge people right away but we should take into account our first impressions of people and gut feeling. If someone warns us about someone, we should also take it into consideration especially if it's someone close to us like our parents who only want the best for us then it might be worth listening to. "Different individuals make different judgments about others, in part because they see those people in different circumstances and in part because they use their own attitudes and schemas when they judge them" (Principles of Social Psychology 271). (Chapter 6 is pg. 226).

I chose this list for this chapter because Chapter 1 gives an overview and history that paves the way for the rest of the chapters in the book and this image summarizes a good amount of that. I think that it's important to know what advances were made in which time periods. I also chose Chapter 1 because it's the first chapter and is the entryway to the book so I chose to use it as sort of an entryway into my scrapbook. (Chapter 1 is pg. 1)
