'How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?' 'Four.' 'And if the Party says that it is not four but five- then how many?' 'Four'..." Winston stood behind his belief that two plus two is four, even though he was told two plus two is five. Winston is also very brave. In a totalitarian government and society, opposing parties are not tolerated. Everyone must agree with the head of the government. One example of this, in 1984, is the Party. The Party holds all of the authority. They believe that the past can be altered by changing all of the records of the past, meaning the truth could not be proved, as it would only exist in one's memories. Another example of a totalitarian government, in 1984, is when Winston is told two plus two makes five. Winston believes that two plus two makes four, but he is told so often that two plus two makes five that he believes it. However, I wish it was a little safer. For instance having stricter laws about guns and other weapons, and harsher punishments for people who break those laws, like terrorists. I think there are also some other things that could be improved, like healthcare, but overall, I like the way our society/ government is. They share in common that fact that they both hate, and are against, the Party. Julia is the type of person who is willing to take risks. I know this because it says "'We're all right here.'

'Yes. Look at the trees.' They were small ashes. which at some point had been cut down and had sprouted back up again into a forest of proles, none of them thicker than one's wrist. 'There's nothing big enough to hide a mike in. Besides, I've been here before.'" This shows that Julia is brave because she has hiding spots, and she will go back to them, even though it is dangerous. Julia is also the type of person who enjoys planning things. I know this because in the book it says "The route she gave him was quite different from the one by which he had come, and brought him out to a different railway station. 'Never go home the same way as you went out,' she said, as though enunciating an important general principle. She would leave first, and Winston would wait half an hour before following her." This shows that Julia likes to plan things out thoroughly to make sure everything goes smoothly.
