First and foremost, the perceptions of beauty might be too diverse to be set by a single universal standard. I may argue that as we are often inculcated with our respective cultures, ideals and media in our societies; our OWN standards of aesthetics are molded. If we focus on the most intuitive concept of physical attractiveness, it is revealed that these standards differ starkly across regions in the globe. The perfect physique in the eyes of a regular East Asian differs that in the eyes of a European American[1]. In Africa, manifestations of external beauty are polymorphic, from striping to scarring to facial cutting[2]. As we can observe, the perspective of attractiveness may be highly dependent on the uniqueness of our communities. A defining concept of beauty might be propagated well within its belongings, especially when that community exhibits a high degree of homophily. The rule of thumb is that each society has its unique features, then its unique standards and finally its own beauty standards. To wrap up, the viewpoints of beauty are too colorful for a uniform Western universal standard.

[1] Kane, C. (2016, January 26).

The beauty of Japanese architecture (We all ❤❤❤ them , eh?)

INTRO

Japan manifests its rich and eclectic blend of traditional(pre-1868) and contemporary (post-1868) elements through architecture (Young and Young, 2007), drawing millions of tourists for their appreciation. Through Its classical architecture is unmistakable, it seems to fail to reflect the beauty of Japan explicitly, as they might be displayed in a subtle manner. Thus, it might be argued that contemporary Japanese architecture may better embody the beauty of Japan. The classical and contemporary Japanese architectural styles would be compared on how they might reflect the aesthetics and the beauty of Japanese values first, and on which should be better appreciated by tourists.

BODY PARAGRAPH #1 (In such a case ----- a chain to hold sentences and ideas together)

Contemporary architecture in Japan may better celebrate the beauty of Japanese socio-cultural values. One of these central values may be the harmony with and respect for nature, which is highly revered in the Japanese ethos, as Wang (2006) has stated. The exemplification of that is how the natural environment might be intervened by the design of structures, and the ambience it might emanate. The Final Wooden House in Kumamoto and Fuji Kindergarten in Tokyo are designed to blend with the trees or the forests (Summer and Pollock, 2010). Through these structures, the growth of the surrounding trees is not compromised, yet the boundaries between artificial works and vegetation are diminished. The beliefs behind these expressive designs can have the purpose of fostering of communal relationships between humanity and natural beings, and of inspiring them to transcend. Thus, a stronger conveyance of the idea of co-existence with a harmonious attitude might be realized explicitly. It is acknowledged that Japanese traditional structures including shrines(e.g. Seigantoji) and paradise halls(e.g. Joruriji) , are characterized with ample utilization of wood and tactfulness with the surrounding habitat, both evoking a spiritual aura of incorporating the paradise with the land(Young and Young, 2007). Yet their designs bound by religious norms fail to obscure the fine line between nature and humanity well enough, as certain distinctive features alongside nature are exhibited, like painting for instance; yet the modern structures aforementioned are successful in displaying subtleness through more expressive ideals of non-intervention rather than conforming to certain norms evinced through past religious buildings. The expressiveness of demonstrating the beautiful sides of Japanese ideals and values in the modern days, has allowed contemporary architecture to embody them in a bold manner.
