When pre-school settings identify concerns about learning issues in relation to Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), for an individual child or a group of children, they should first use the Best Practice Guidance  to identify what can be done to support the child’s access to the early years curriculum from within the settings own resources.
If it is considered that additional advice, training or support is needed then the Early Years Local Inclusion Forum Team Request Form (DOCX, 114.2 KB)  should be completed. Pre-school settings must also gain parental consent prior to referral by completing a PCI2 - Parental Consent form for referral to LIFT (DOC, 136.5 KB) .

Both programmes work on understanding autism, building confidence to encourage interaction and communication and analysing and managing behaviour. The EarlyBird Healthy Minds programme is a six-session parent support programme to help promote good mental health in autistic children.The National Autistic Society EarlyBird Centre is based in South Yorkshire with local authority staff running licensed programmes in many areas of the UK and overseas.
