  • The age of the students: the pronunciation tends to be easier for children, on the other hand adults can approach the pronunciation of native speakers, only if they are surrounded by the language.
  • Motivation: Students must show interest in wanting to improve their pronunciation. 
  • Personality and attitude: Each student is unique and unrepeatable, each one has their own personality, talents, strengths and weaknesses. For this reason, each student will learn in a different way and at a different pace compared to her classmates.
  • Teaching methods: the quality of teaching that students receive from teachers will affect the quality of their learning.
  • Language Exposure: Student learning is affected by how much English they can hear in their daily lives.
  • The student's native language: This has a strong influence on the way the student perceives the second language

  • Spelling: one of the common problems is this since in English there are many words whose spelling is not based on grammatical rules, which leads the student to mispronounce these words.
  • Borrowed words: these types of words usually belong to another language, which makes their pronunciation difficult since sometimes there is no similar sound to pronounce them and on the other hand they tend to have a different pronunciation than what the student is already used to.
  • Fossilization: refers to the fact that after a certain time the student stops persuading his progress in the pronunciation of the language.
  • Hypercorrection: is when a student learns a rule and tries to apply it in different cases.
  • Learning to listen: if the student does not pay attention to what he hears, he will be unable to understand the difference in sounds and therefore will not be able to pronounce the words correctly.
  • Feelings and insecurities: sometimes students do not want to stand out with a different pronunciation from their classmates or simply (in some cases) they do not see the importance of learning English

  • Include real communicative practice whenever possible.
