In Italy (but the Hollywood video tells me that we're not alone) people are almost proud of being terrible at math!
This is a cultural problem.
Math - at least at school level - is not intrinsically difficult, but a lot of its understanding relies on prior knowledge, which can be very hard to catch up to.
To overcome math anxiety - which is a real thing - students should learn that making mistakes is not a deadly sin. Embracing struggle and failure can lead to success!
