Problem Statement: People in West Africa do not have the proper access to clean drinking water.

The problem we found that was most critical was the inadequate access to clean drinking water throughout all of Western Africa. With this problem in mind we looked in regions that had rivers nearby that could help these smaller villages that need to have people walk for miles in order to get near any sort of water.

+Create water filter by using waste materials to cycle water in poor areas where they lack access to clean drinking water. With our product we would eliminate the harsh traveling conditions as well as take a strong stab at cleaning up water in West Africa. Around 40% of citizens in Africa go without clean water which is roughly 427 million in a given area. Eliminating the travel part would greatly increase the output of water being put out into a community. On average, women and children walk around 3.7 miles to find adequate drinking water and have to carry them all back. With our filter we would be able to have stationary objects than can be transported via vehicles and brought into the center of towns.
+Grants and funding for entrepreneurship in West Africa

We decided to work on the lack of clean drinking water in West Africa by creating a water filter. Using the water filter, many citizens in these Western African countries will have drinking water as the filters do everything for them and all they need to do is fill them. Using private funding from different support groups we would have volunteers in order to transport the filters to specific areas and have them monitored within the community. Using trucks, the filters can be transported to areas in which they can be used rather than being in areas in which water would only be provided via rain.

During the course of study, we wholeheartedly believe that entrepreneurship plays an indispensable role in ending global poverty, primarily because it creates more jobs, open new markets, and create new industries that help to lift many households out of poverty. Around the world, small and medium businesses create 66% of full-time jobs and in low-income countries. Data also shows that for every 1% increase in the number of entrepreneurs in the community, there is a 2% decline in the poverty rate. Furthermore, supporting businesses in West Africa can provide opportunities for poor people to work and support their families; hence, they are able to invest money in their child education as well. It helps to break the poverty alleviation.

We have decided to partner with WATERisLIFE. This organization is similar to ours. One way that they provide help for the African Water Crisis is by selling their own water bottles. For every bottle sold, they donate a bottle to someone in Africa. 100% of their proceeds go towards ending the water crisis. Another way that they provide help to the water crisis is by using their "SunSpring." The SunSpring is a machine that provides clean water for the people. One SunSpring provides 5,000 gallons of clean water per day for 10 years. They are run by solar and wind power. We will be partnering with WATERisLIFE to end the World Water Crisis.

Ultimately, our goal is to end the water crisis in Africa all together. Around 40% of people in West Africa do not have access to clean drinking water. In our first year, we hope to reduce that number by 3 to 5 percent. Our long term goal is to reduce that number by 10 percent in the next five years.
