This design keeps students in groups of four with plenty of space between groups. 

This layout allows for many rotation stations. The teacher can meet one-on-one near her desk. Students can do a bigger project, have combined groups, or do projects educational games at the meeting table.

Students can go to a reading nook and get books from the classroom library to promote independent reading.

The layout promotes attentiveness during teaching, independence during rotations, and collaboration during group work.

Fluorescent lighting is harsh on its own. In addition to having half of one wall being a window, hanging string lights on the ceiling allows for warmer light. This would house scissors, markers, colored pencils, paper, pencil sharpeners, three hole punch, tape, and any other project material we use. This would also store our reference materials in folders. The bottom drawer would house  our books when not in use. This allows for less disruption to get materials when the teacher is teaching. Tables are used for more space for materials and laptops. Two students will sit at a table. Two tables will face each other to make groups of four to allow small group discussion. 

The chairs used are comfortable and give to movement. They are on wheels to allow a student to move about easily.

Both table and chairs fold. This gives the teacher the availability to move all chairs and tables against the walls when more floor space is needed for certain lessons. All elements of this design revolve around comfort and function.

A student should walk in and feel welcome. The paint, plants, lighting, and wall art should make even the most anxious student feel a little bit calmer and at peace while in the room. Nothing about the room is loud or garish. It should allow students to feel at home with a sense of acceptance just by walking in the room.

Tables and their arrangement, material towers, reading nook, and charging power towers all contribute to a flexible learning environment. It puts the student at the center of it all. The rotation stations help the students engage with each other in a positive manner while giving the teacher space to move around or availability to help small groups. 

How would it improve learning by changing the space?

Students are invited to collaborate in this space. The design invites more small group conversations. It also allows for space for innovation and creativity with separated locations for activities. The spacing allows groups to be spread out more. Students come in feeling safe and feeling that there is structure because of the layout and aesthetic design.  The materials and placement allow for less distraction during the lessons and project time.
