This picture of a shattered glass can mean the children's fragile feelings. The children, especially when Lori was creating her sculpture of Shakespeare, that was ruined by Rex because he was drinking... again. It was her only ticket out of the miserable home and pursue her dreams in New York, Rex just had to ruin it for her because Shakespeare is apparently a "fake".
This type of situation leads to a lot of commotion than can emotionally ruin little kids in the future, they don't get the proper care from their parents like they're supposed to, which is probably why Maureen went crazy and stabbed Rose Mary; she was confused and always needed someone to love and take care of her.

Child Neglect

Child Neglect is a big part of this story, the mom only cares about her infamous "art career", and the dad is an alcoholic who can't keep a steady job. Because of these immature actions, this caused the children to starve and not care about their appearance. Social Norms would probably judge Rose and Rex about their parenting, and call child services.
“Why do I always have to be the one who earns the money?” Mom asked. “You have a job. You can earn money. Lori can earn money, too. I’ve got more important things to do.” This quote by Rose Mary shows how she'd rather do her own thing other than get a job to support her family. This would've never happened if she didn't have children at all, it was a ridiculous decision to have children that you're never going to care for.

Coming of Age & Identity

This picture of the Phoenix best describes Jeannette's Identity and coming of age. During her high school years, Jeannette found herself a new metaphorical home, it was calm, quiet, and the teacher was very supportive with her work. This made Jeannette the person who she is today even though her life is "full of tragedy and comedy..."
Jeannette has always lived in a broken home, but she still managed to stand up for herself and her siblings to have a better life. Jeannette working for the Phoenix may be on of the reasons why she wanted to move in the big apple, a place where they were finally free from their parents, and a place where they can finally make their dreams come true.

Broken Promises

This picture of a paper heart slowly tearing into two best represents broken promises. Like that one scenario where Rex promises Jeannette that he will never drink again because it was her birthday, it was soon broken because Rex was stressed from all of the family commotion that's been happening. These broken promises play a big part in the story, like for example, the Glass Castle. It was never made because Jeannette had to find out the hard way that they will never have enough supplies to build they're home. Sure, Rex promised his children on it, but they stopped believing that their life is a "fun wild adventure" and was a living hell instead.

Reality VS. Fantasy

This picture of the Glass Castle is a great example of Reality VS. Fantasy when Rex wanted to build a beautiful glass castle for his family to live in. Rex tells Jeannette and Brian to dig a hole because Rex was "going to put the foundation and basement of the Glass Castle."
But as time goes on, that fantasy slowly started to fade away. Instead of a foundation, it slowly became a trash pit that defined the reality of the Glass Castle because of the fact the Rex doesn't even have the money to support his family.

After Jeannette published her book, she moved to the country with her mom and her second husband, Walls figured that Park Avenue in New York City "was too much" for her. Aside from that, Jeannette was nice enough to provide Rose Mary her own house on the same property as hers. Rose Mary is still the person she is today, she paints, keeps her beloved trash, and also complains from time to time.
Of course, Jeannette is used to her selfish attitude already. But even though she still act like that, Jeannette still loves her mother no matter what, in a recent article Walls said that, We all have our baggage, and I think the trick is not resisting it but accepting it, understanding that the worst experience has a valuable gift wrapped inside if you’re willing to receive it.”
