But still there are so many similarities between countries. There has been unfortunately always somebody who wanted to own or to conquer the land. That's what I saw in the Saga Museum today. Really amazing what one family created there as a museum!

How come that people want to settle and live on a bare, rocky and icy island? It is the thrive to conquer but also to live in peace and harmony among your own kin that made early people take on risky journeys and come to iceland. They brought their culture, religion and tales with them and lived happily for a while on this remote rock until diseases and war reached them as well. It is here where the first 'parliament' was founded. When I hear of the atrocities during the Reformation, the wars between the tribal princes and the witch-burnings, this is sadly a sad reality that I have been aware of Central Europe so far. But in Iceland !!!
An inhospitable island, an island with many natural hazards, an island on which one had to fight for survival. A survival that could succeed by helping each other. And yet here, too, the incomprehensible hatred of the people on each other, in which not even the plea for mercy has caused leniency.
What's the name of the script? We need nature, but not us!

A perfect introduction to Iceland, SAGA. What is it exactly? Now it is a typical magical association with the rough, plain and magical struggle of survival, conquering, and managing nature. Not only nature can be cruel and all destroying, mankind can be evil as well.... but still resistant and straight forward, falling several times but always standing up and never giving up. In so many ways human beings are able to adapt to harsh natural conditions  and live with direct natural dangers lying underneath our daily struggle for survival. The concept of museums is something countries have in common, but at the same time they can vary a great deal amongst them. The two we visited were very different from each other and in both we learnt and reflected about the country, which probably makes them meet their main goals, right?

It begins far away into the past. Traditions and ways of living are continuously changing. You said Rita that the decision of an only person determines the future of next generations...
