Pelo (2016) explains that the best way a child interacts with a medium is by knowing how to have their workspace ready for what they are going to do. In this context, what is needed for painting?  

Also, Assemblage theory could be related where paint brushes, paint, paper, water, color mixing pallets, tables as well as humans come together which is called as an assemblage.

Assemblage theory is further explained mentioning how there is no fixed role for the person who is painting as every move they make is never pre-planned. In this case, paint is not a tool, but rather another participant that has so many characteristics such as its viscosity, ability to dry and solidify, smoothness, stickiness, how it can be mixed and transformed and something that leaves traces behind. (Pacini-Ketchabaw, Kind & Kocher,2016,p 46)

I had no idea what I was going to do with paint, so I started exploring the color palette and painting different colors in order to see how it feels to paint with a paint brush and see how different colors react to mixing with water.

Then when I got to the color blue, paint spoke to me,

"Why don't you try your finger tips?".

I said, "Why not",

and I dipped my fingers in the paint and started keeping finger prints on the paper.

This is where I learned about the Assemblage Theory, paint’s characteristics, the sounds it makes, different forms of it.

This chapter also focuses on how children should be taught to be present and open to what happens as they play with different materials, rather than continuing the traditional method of controlling children to reach a specific outcome.
