Students know that they will be heard, but you must be patient and wait your turn. If they forget how to act, they are redirected to the poster.  The poster works for this class.
 Ms. C became the teacher in late October after a series of about 8 substitutes.  The class was in chaos, and she being a first-year teacher, it was difficult to get the students involved in learning. By practicing, demonstrating and encouraging the students to follow the classroom rules, they are now more settled and want to learn. The students feel that this teacher cares about them, so they are willing to work now and take pride in their accomplishments.

The first way this helps maintain positive strategy is by separating those students who are distractions to themselves and others.  Another way the room arrangement creates a positive strategy is that it allows  students access to the Smartboard/class front from each seat.  The last way that this seating arrangement creates a positive strategy is that it allows for changing up the desks and assigned seats as rewards for good behavior.  ]]> 2023-03-14 03:43:42 UTC https://padlet.com/along2023doral/xkxuta9q2ubggpso/wish/2515435161 Student Centered Rigorous Learning along2023doral https://padlet.com/along2023doral/xkxuta9q2ubggpso/wish/2515435923 This is one of the self contained classes.  It was near the end of the day (and we only had the boys for some reason). Mr. N let the boys decide on their own game, and they chose "Simon Says" (with a twist). In this Simon Says the ball is thrown to the "winner" who lasts after following Simon's instructions. That Simon instructs as usual with, “touch your nose...touch your feet, etc...”. The "twist" is that Simon will give a random math or vocabulary question that they have to answer. The first one to get it right becomes Simon, and they get the coveted ‘sphere of power. ‘ 
Allowing the students to pick and choose a learning game allows them to take ownership of their learning. It creates a positive culture in the classroom. It gives each student the opportunity to practice being a leader.  They look forward to coming to class each day when learning is fun and engaging.

At this age, many children are impulsive, and this helps them to check what they say, before they say it.  In our classes, we remind kids daily that words are as powerful as any physical force. In this classroom, the teacher displays work from students who are not just the “A” students. The title of the work wall uses a play on the school mascot, Noles.
