Many readers set themselves a target for the new year, maybe several books that they would like to read before 2027, a particular author who they would like to explore, or even the top 100 reads to investigate.  2026 sees another new, that of the National Year of Reading, which aims  ‘to address the steep decline in reading amongst children, young people and adults’  (National Literacy Trust ).   This is a very exciting aim and personally I have set myself a challenge within this framework.  I am going to write a letter (each month) to classroom educators unpacking different dimesons of reading and teaching reading to children and young people.

My aim is to share ideas, considerations and practical suggestions as to how we can engage our students both primary and secondary in reading.  I am looking forward to meeting you all through my letters.
