The Dragon Boat Festival is a Chinese holiday that occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. A commemoration of the ancient poet Qu Yuan, the holiday is celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings called zongzi. The importance of Qu Yuan is that he was very beloved by the people, and when he died in a river they rushed out to save him, hence the dragon boat races. it is also said that they dropped balls of sticky rice in the river so the fish didn't eat his body.
