2. What had you done?
On 18 July, I had my first class with my master named Sir Firdaus, he had been an instructor of World Tae Kwon Do Federation for more than 10 years, the training was in a big hall at 4.30 pm. We all started with a 5 laps of jogging and warming up the body with stretching involving both the legs and upper body. It had been difficult for me as I had not stretched for a long time. Then we started to divide ourselves according to belt colour in order for the seniors which are black belts to be able to guide the juniors on the basics of tae kwon do which includes a variety of kicks. On the day the master had taught a variety of kicks such as front kick and side kick. After that there was a 'Taegyo' session in which there is a requirements for each student to remember a pattern of kicks and punches in order to proceed to the next belt which is to be remembered during the test. The session ended at 6.45 and i learnt a lot of taegyo from the day.
3.Points to remember
I will need to figure on how to put more power on my kicks and punches.
4.Feelings and thoughts
I felt very good as the training was very new to me. I am very excited to go to the next class and maybe even spar.
5.Difficulty and coping
It was very difficult to kicks and it was exhausting after training. I will need to do a lot of jogs to increase stamina
6. 2 words to describe
I would describe this elective progress as self education.
7. Next week plan
My plan for next week is to still go to the class but maybe next class my master will teach a lot of new things

1. Your name, matric number, date

NUR FATIHAH BINTI ABDUL RAHMAN, A174302, 24 JULY 2022

2. What have you done?

I started my part-time job at Levi's The Curve 2 weeks ago. On my first day at work, I started on the night shift, which was 5 PM to 10 PM. The store manager introduced me to the staff and store layout. He brought me to the backroom and gave me a LEVIS ID card and made a thumbprint for my attendance at work. They taught me how to fold jeans and shirts nicely. I didn’t really talk to customers as I didn’t really know their items and products, but the staff there were slowly trying to teach me about their product. I did help the customer by just giving the size that they wanted.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Points to remember are to always thumbprint in and out of work. Remembering their jeans and code name is a must for LEVI’s workers. I have to get used to knowing body size and image to give the right size for the customers.

.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

So far I have felt so good, even though working is tiring since you have to stand up all the way until closing time. But by making myself busy with folding and cleaning up the stores, the time will go by so quickly. I think I have made the right decision to work at LEVI’S. It was fun to know the different types of jeans, cut, material, and others. It was fun knowing new people with different background at work. Working as a team really made job easier and faster.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

My difficulties would be in remembering all the code names for the jeans. For example, straight men's jeans use code 501 while 511 is the code name for slim-fit jeans. For women, they have different code names. For example, 710 is for super skinny jeans. So when a regular customer came in and asked for jeans using their code name, it was difficult for me to help them because I'd have to walk around the store looking for the jeans they've mentioned. I coped with it by asking for help from other part-timers that had been working for months in LEVIS. They helped me so much throughout my first two weeks.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Fun and exciting

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

My plan for next week is to remember the jeans and their code name, as this will help to assist customers so much better and efficiently. All I can do is try to read the label while folding the jeans so I will get used to it better. I also plan to assist and talk to customers more often to build my confidence. This will help to boost up the sale at LEVI’S.

1. Kherishhma a/p Thiagarajan, A174929, 23/7/2022

2. On my first day of class, I was very nervous yet excited as this was my first time attending such a course. When I arrived at the salon where I met my instructor, I was genuinely relieved because she was very friendly and not judgemental in any way as I have no experience and knowledge in the field. After a brief introduction of the attendees, I was introduced to various different makeup products and their suitability based on different shades of skin tone and skin types. This was enlightening for me as each skin type is unique and has its flaw. Hence, learning about beautifying every individual felt like a privilege to me. The class went on to learn about the do and don'ts when applying makeup products. My instructor gave me a mannequin for me to try and explore different techniques of makeup beginning with the eyebrows till doing the lips. This was definitely beneficial to me because it was a hands-on experience in which I could see where were my mistakes and that was pretty much how my first class went.

3. To be honest, I feel that I have yet to learn a lot from this course and this skill definitely needs practice, and it's not something that can be perfected over a single try. However, I definitely learned a lot in which I understood that everyone is unique, every skin is beautiful and it just requires the right brush and paints to make the perfect art. From the course so far, I've learned that before doing makeup, a proper skin setting is essential to get the best results. In addition, many of us face skin issues including myself such as acne, hyperpigmentation and etc however through this course I understood to work around those issues.

4. I am very much looking forward to the future classes as I know that I will be acquiring useful knowledge regarding this field and maybe someday I can turn my skill into a side business. Besides that, I manage to make some friends there which was really nice and I was glad to be acquainted with them.

5. I joined this course as I am very interested in saree draping, I can proudly call myself a saree enthusiast however I have zero knowledge on bridal makeup or worse even just plain basic makeup. Thus, it was definitely challenging as my instructor just handed out mannequins and asked us to make up the doll as we would at home. I was clueless about what to do however thankfully my instructor is a very sweet person that she was willing to teach me from the very beginning. With that being said, I still have much to learn.

6. Exciting and worthwhile

7. My plan would be to go through some youtube videos regarding makeup tutorials as the first weeks are more towards bridal makeup and the following weeks are more towards saree draping. Hopefully, I am able to be more prepared for the next class and learn different techniques and methods.

All the video lessons were pre-uploaded by her and I need to watch them and learn accordingly. In week 1, I have watched a few introductory videos on the type of stiches such as chain stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch, satin stitch and cross stitch. I tried doing the stiches and they turned out pretty well as a product in the picture above. I even contacted my instructor via email and she was so keen to teach me. I sent her a picture of my work and she corrected my mistakes patiently.

3.
A bridge to the world: Intermediate Korean Language

Nur Farahin Binti Abu Bakar, A173924, 24/7/2022

2. What have you done?

I started my online Intermediate Korean Lesson Elective Posting on Coursera on 18th July 2022. It requires me to take 3 lessons per week and I managed to fulfil all the targeted lessons on week 1. Since I am taking the intermediate lesson, this course is more focusing on how to construct the sentences in a correct and understandable way and the paragraph that I need to thoroughly understand is way much harder compared to the beginner level that I used to take 2 years ago. From the lessons, I learnt about how to use the noun (라고 하다 - used when you talked about what you heard from other people, also can be used to introduce yourself. For example, ‘저는 파라힌이라고 하다’ which means I am (called) Farahin). Next, I learnt about the verb -고 있다 (is used when certain behaviour is still going on continuously, so if I can give an example for it is “저는 지금 한국어를 공부하고 있어요 - I am learning Korean at this moment”. After completed the whole lessons, I need to take the quizzes regarding the noun/verbs that I have learnt and fortunately, I managed to pass the quizzes with 100% points for the first week. in addition, I also need to complete the worksheet and mark the answer by myself with the provided answers. I am glad that I only have one mistake to correct.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Noun 라고 하다 - can be used to introduce anything, I need to practice using this noun when constructing simple sentences

Verb 고 있다 - behaviour continuously going on

4. Your feelings & thoughts

Since I was focusing more to medical school subjects the previous months, it is a bit challenging for me to start and regain back all the knowledge that I used to have back then. I also feel a bit disappointed because I used to have Korean Pen Pal friends on Kakaotalk last year but I was too busy with other things and just abandoned my Korean learning. I am truly grateful that this elective posting allows me to start back my Korean learning on track and I have enough time to find new Pen Pal, make new notes and practice to translate Korean Idol’s Vlive without any worries of my medical school academic coo curriculum since I have passed all the postings. I also have a thought to improve my Korean by writing an essay starting from the second week to see which part that I lack and need improvement.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

I think there are not much difficulties as I am still in week 1 and the course started with an easy route first followed by more difficult lessons in the future. But, I do have this small problem to understand what Korean people are saying when they are talking especially when they talk too fast or using slang since Korean Gen Z or Millennial generations love to use slang words these days.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Worthy and challenging

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

My plan for next week is to start reading Korean Manhwa/Webtoon in Korean instead of English so that I can be much more familiar with the slang words since those comic authors love to use slang words in their comic writings. Next, I will start to write an essay consist of two paragraphs and ask my neighbour which is very good in Korean to assist my essay.

GAN TONG SHENG
A174531, 24/7/2022

2. What have you done?

I enrolled in an online course First Step Korean by Yonsei University in Coursera on 11th June 2022. There are 4 chapters for week 1 therefore I completed it in 4 days. I learned about the Korean alphabet which consists of vowels and consonants. After going through every chapter, there is a graded quiz to evaluate my progression to make sure I can move on to the next chapter. Therefore, I need to pay full attention and make notes for each chapter to ensure that I master that chapter. Now I am able to read and write Hanguel.

3. Points to remember from week 1!

Definitely, I have to remember all the alphabets as well as the pronunciation of the 10 basic vowels, 11 additional vowels, 14 basic consonants, and 5 tension sound consonants. That's a total of 40! Besides, I was also required to remember the way to write Hanguel by combining these alphabets.

4. Your feelings & thoughts

I was beyond joy and excited to learn Hanguel because I have a huge interest in it. I am really proud and happy that I am able to read and write Hanguel just in one week's time.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

It's really hard to recognize all the 40 foreign alphabets. They are all new graphical character that doesn't have any relation to English neither nor Mandarin. The pronunciation of Hanguel is also a huge challenge because some of the alphabets cannot be spelled using English alphabets. The only solution to these difficulties was just hard work. I took a lot of extra time during the first week to recognize the alphabet. Besides, I watched the lectures several times to make sure that my pronunciation was correct. Fortunately, I was able to master them all at the end of the first week.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far

Studious, Meaningful

7. Your plan for next week (Week 2)

I will continue to attend the lectures as scheduled in Week 2. Week 2 is focusing on greeting and introducing. I hope to learn more vocabulary of Hanguel and be able to communicate using Hanguel!

So the objective of 1st week is to get the right technique of footwork and feeling of playing a single badminton category since I'm rarely playing it. Most of the time I play double badminton category with my friends. In the 1st week I played a single badminton match with my younger brother as my sparring partner. I recorded the match so I can evaluate my skill and strategy in a single match. These are some highlights of the match. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RqaSTXt5XaTmkylXwWValfabgLBp_7Tw/view?usp=sharing

Points to remember from week 1

I need to improve my footwork and stamina. I also need to be more aggressive and patient during the match. In order to gain it i need to train to improve my skill and stamina

Your feeling and thought

I am happy with the 1st week progression where I have a sparring partner and recorded the match. From the match I can conclude that I still have the basic footwork on single matches but I need to improve on my speed on the court.

. The difficulty and how I cope

The difficulty is to get more sparring partners to play a single match. How I cope is by playing a double match with my casual badminton team to improve the badminton skill.

2 words to improve elective posting progression so far

Exciting and tiring

Your Plan for next week

To improve the skill and technique

What have you done?

During my first week of elective posting, I started my first class of embroidery in DOMESTIKA with my instructor Emillie Ferris from United Kingdom on 18th July 2022 via online. All the video lessons were pre-uploaded by her and I need to watch them and learn accordingly. In week 1, I have watched a few introductory videos on the type of stiches such as chain stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch, backstitch and cross stitch. I tried doing the stiches and combined them into a design as if in the picture above. I even contacted my instructor via email and she was so keen to teach me. I sent her a picture of my work and she corrected my mistakes patiently.

3. Points to remember from week 1.

I really need to be patient when embroidering as it consumes lots of time and practice. I need to practice more on the stiches.

4. Your feelings and thoughts.

I felt really happy and satisfied as learning embroidery was once in my wish list. I'm so happy that I get to engage myself in embroidery for the coming four weeks although it is tiring sometimes when things didn't turn out as well as I planned.

5. Any difficulties/concerns? How did you cope?

I had a hard time in understanding the steps via videos but thankfully I get to connect with my instructor via email and facetime. She was so sweet and patient with me as she understands that I'm still a newbie and needs lots of teachings and practices. I'm forever thankful to my instructor whom made this whole week a bearable one.

6. 2 words to describe elective posting progress so far.

Fun and exciting.

7. Your plan for next week ( week 2 ).

So far I need to brush up on the stiches that I learnt in week 1 so that I can get used to the techniques and come up with many designs.
