Sickle Cell Anemia effects your body by changing the shape of your cells and turning them from a rounder shape to a pointy shape witch is dangerous because it risks blocking the blood flow and risks not allowing the oxygen flow into your body.

The sickle cell mutation is caused by a defected gene passed down by both parents. Sickle Cell Anemia is a mutated hemoglobin gene. It is possible to only have one affected gene, and be a carrier. That means that your future children would have a chance of getting Sickle Cell Anemia if their father also was a carrier.

This is an important mutation because it is both helpful and harmful mutation because it can cause blood clots. If you have sickle cell in Africa it can make you immune to malaria.

For this mutation to be helpful it would be determined by where you live. For instance if you lived in Africa or a country with a high malaria rate it could be extremely useful, due to the fact you would be immune. If you had sickle cell anemia in America it would be harmful because we do not have malaria because we have screens and available vaccines.
