Hayoung: This image correlates well with my personal growth in making art: throughout the year, my goal for this class was expressing my ideas effectively. While designing my pieces, I researched how other artists use techniques and mediums to evoke certain emotions, and sometimes learned from my previous works. As I completed every piece, I could feel that I had grown artistically and getting closer to my goal.

Amelia - Something that i will carry forward with me from this class is attention to detail and realism. This year my goal has been to create art that is realistic and feels real, and i believe ive been able to develop that. At my next school i want to continue that goal and see how far my painting skills can go when i dedicate myself. For example this picture was my highest dedication of reaching my goal which im really proud of.

What I am taking with me is essentially confidence that taking a more structured art class with deadlines won't be the end for me. It correlates with how despite feeling overwhemled with the deadlines, specifically due to the use of oil paintings, I still continued. It also connects with how I felt trying new mediums and techniques, growing confident with my use of color, texture and color mediums.

CLAIRE - Apart from technical skills and growing as an artist, trying new techniques and mediums, I also grew as a person. I'm grateful for having Ms. Sandschaper for my three years of art here in Maya. I got confidence with my skills and a hobby when I feel overwhelmed.

A conversation about Pink Floyd and its meaning with in its music showed me the nuances of the band's journey. I realized I could try to convay deeper messaging by working on a single question rather than touching multiple questions only on the surface. What I have taken from this year was that the art I want to create is art similar to the nuances of Pink Floyd, which creating pieces that have a story to them, not just surface level is what I want to create.

This image represents my growth as an artist through out this year. I've learn how to adjust to deadlines and make art that really does represent what i intend. With other people inspirations and art in this class, i learnt how to grow and to make something that really matters. I clearly saw personal growth in not only my technique and the aesthetics of my art but also the meaning and the process that came with it. With in each piece i can we growth and with in each step and piece I'm prouder of my self.

Mateo: As the year comes to a close, I am taking with me a new growth in my art style. I learned to start pushing myself to go beyond pencil drawings and sketches and implemented colors, abstract shapes and figures and made my pieces far more interesting to look at. This class helped push me outside of my comfort zone and develop new and interesting drawing skills that made my pieces unique.

By using and experimenting with various materials, I have shown extreme personal growth, as I was always trying to get out my comfort zone. This allowed me to become a better artist, as I was able to express and convey my message through various mediums.

CHRISTOPHER - This is a picture I took a couple months ago of a dead tree in a field of leaves. I found it really beautiful how despite being beat down, life still prospered around it, filling it with beauty. I think this really represents how, although the subject matter of my art is somewhat dark and upsetting, I made it my own and ultimately turned it into a positive experience.

I believe that I have grown a lot as an artist this year by experimenting with new methods and processes for creating art. I would like to grow more as an artist and aspire to explore new mediums. The image above has greatly helped me discover the art I want to make, although I am unsure of who the artist is I really like the style and is something I wish to do when moving towards the future. Overall I would like to get more experimental with my art and discover new things!

Sarah: This is my favorite piece from this year, not just because it's nice to look at, but because it's personal. This piece shows how much I've grown as an artist in my technical skills as well as how I connect ideas. I think this piece also ties all of my pieces together and represents me as an artist.

Although this art piece was my last piece this year I think it shows a huge step in technical skill and shows how I have perfected my technique. I still see room for growth and consider this piece opens up new ideas for me and I will continue to expand as an artist. I want to continue experimenting with my art and refining my skills.
