         <description><![CDATA[<div>The boom of agriculture brought along new and improved ways of living. We started to see new patterns of crop rotation and livestock utilization and a much greater diversity of wheat and other vegetables. The enclosure act passed in britain meant that poor people were kicked off their land allowing more wealthier lords to purchase fields while pushing out small scale farmers. Because there was a boom in food supplies, farmers could spend more time producing goods that were not needed for survival.          <title>Mechanical Reaper</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The mechanical reaper was invented by Cyrus Mccormick in 1831. Cyrus was born on the 15th of february 1809, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, united states and died on the 13th of may 1884, lllinois, united states. The machine was used to harvest crops mechanically, his invention allowed wheat and other crops to be harvested at a much higher rate than harvesting by hand and would need much less workers.          <title>Theshing Machine</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This machine was invented in 1786 by a scottish engineer named Andrew Meirkle. Andrew was born in 1719 in Scotland and died November 1811. The Thresher was used for separating small grains such as wheat from the stalks or the husk. Before the invention of the thresher machine small grains were separated by hand or they were put under the hooves or horses or livestock to be separated by the livestock stamping down on the grain. Thresher machines reduced the need for manual labour however local farm labourers became fed up with the lack of work and job prospects and ended up revolting and smashing up threshers in what was known as the Swing Riots in the UK.          <title>Water Frame</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The inventor of the water frame was a Richard Arkwright who was born on the 23rd December 1732 in Preston, UK and died on the 3rd August 1793 in Cromford UK. The water frame was a large spinning machine which spun lots of cotton threads all at once. The actual machine was invented in 1769 and used flowing water as its power source to turn the wheel which reduced the amount of human labor needed to operate the machine. It was also the first powered automatic and continuous textile machine.          <title>Cotton Gin</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The cotton gin allowed for seeds to be separated from cotton fibres which would take an extremely long time if undertaken by hand. The inventor was Eli Whitney who was born on the 8th December 1765 and died on the 8th January 1825.          <title>Seed Drill</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The seed drill allowed seeds to be easily planted deep into the ground instead of only being planted on top of the ground. This was more efficient in growing crops due to the fact that the seeds were planted deeper and not washed away as they would be on the surface. The machine was pulled by horses and had rotating drills or runners that planted seeds at a set depth. The inventor of the seed drill was Jethro Tull who was born in 1679 and died in 1741. Child labour strengthened the industrial revolution by providing cheap labour . The articles show that the child labourers would work long hours and subsequently laws were put in place to protect the children involved and to increase school attendance.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Frank Donnely and Joseph Hare are the authors of this advertisment in 1884 showcasing agricultural tools to potential farmers to keep up with the increased demand. The purpose of this advertisement was to get farmers to buy Joseph Hare &amp; Co products. The seed drill was used from 1641. The article produced in 2003 showing this picture appealed to historians and people interested in the history of agriculture. The seed drill reduced the need for physical and manual labour and thus improved farming methods and increased production of crops.          <description><![CDATA[<div>The author of the postcard below is unknown however we can assume that the postcard would have been illustrated roughly in the 1800s. The picture shows a combination of factories near a water source, steam engines and various farming machines.
