In Image 1, I notice that the man is standing alone and in a military uniform.

In Image 2, I notice the differences in workers and military-looking overseers of the wall construction leading me to conclude that this wall was built for political differences.

In image 3, I notice that many people are standing opposite of what is labeled as the 'American Side', this is interesting to me because I know this image was taken in Germany. This leads me to wonder why America was involved in the West side of Berlin and what makes the two sides different.

In all of these images the depiction of the wall inquires me to want to know more about the ideological divisions of Berlin Germany and what makes one side of a city different enough to build a wall to divide them.

Who is the soldier in the first image and why would it be important to distinguish that he is an African American? How does this distinction highlight the ideas of race and racial relations in Europe during this era?
