         <description><![CDATA[<div>Lane Smith's picture book is an interesting twist on idioms. This book would work well in a fourth grade classroom. Students could use this book to expand their understanding of figurative language.  I would have students create a comic strip for other idioms illustrating their literal and figurative meanings. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This book would work well in a first grade classroom. The text is simple, but it would supplement student's understanding of context clues. This is why I feel it is better suited for first graders. I would read the book to the classroom paired with a discussion. I would have them pause to discuss where they think the story is leading as the context clues appear.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Wet </em>is written with a repetitive sentence structure.  Throughout the book the narrator uses compound sentences to discuss items that get wet. This book would work well in a second grade classroom. I would have students write a story using a similar sentence structure. This would display their understanding of the story and show their skills pertaining to sentence structure. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I found this book qualified as a high quality read aloud because of the use of vocabulary and context clues. Fifth graders would enjoy this book because the vocabulary would challenge them while remaining understandable. Students are able to infer the meaning of loathe through the context clues in the book. I would have students choose a new vocabulary word and write a paragraph that provides the reader with context clues for the meaning of the word. </div>]]></description>

You could do an activity to demonstrate their understanding of similes, but you could also have them participate in an activity about friendship. I would have students talk about how they feel when people are watching and when they are not. </div>]]></description>

This activity would work well in the beginning of the year to set classroom rules.  Students would take ownership over their behavior if they make their own class rules.  </div>]]></description>
