1. This quote reveals that D.B. is someone with literary talent and aspiration, knowing that Hollywood is a place where he can find success. D.B., though he is writing for others, is earning a lot of money from it, as seen with the nice car he had earlier. 
2. D.B. reveals that Holden is someone who does not like to be told by others what to do. I didn't like hearing him say that. It made me sound dead or something. It was very depressing. "I guess I will," I said.
"I'd like to put some sense in that head of yours, boy. I'm trying to help you. I'm trying to help you, if I can” (8).
1. Mr. Spencer is old and sickly, which Holden notes as disturbing to him. Mr. Spencer, along with various other adults in Holden’s life, is worried for his future and apathetic nature in general. He makes it clear he wants to help him find motivation and a path in life.
2. Holden’s interactions with Mr. Spencer reveal that he is different than his peers in that he gives little regard to flunking classes or being forcibly kicked out of school. 1. Ackley is someone who is also not “in the game” along with Holden. However, Holden deems him to be a slob because of his terrible dental and facial hygeine along with his nasty personality. As shown by the quote, Ackley is someone who enjoys snooping around even when the other party shows clear discomfort. 
2. Ackly’s descriptiom reveals that Holden is someone who is very astute and attentive to the people in his surroundings. He notices things about their habits and personality, always noting the negatives in these. The reason he fixed himself up to look good was because he was madly in love with himself” (15).
Stradlater keeps his razor grimy and dirty, not taking the effort to clean it. He spends most of his time instead at the mirror, admiring himself. Stradlater’s hygiene on a deeper level reveals his true character. He is someone who is very superficial, caring about the way he looks and the way he acts in front of others, not realizing the impact of his actions or how others see him.
Stradlater’s descriptions reveal that Holden judges others not only based on appearance. Holden despises Stradlater’s superficial nature even though he is handsome. Instead, Holden believes him to be a secret slob because of his unhygienic habits. Holden values personality and habits to be of greater importance than looks.

1. Jane Gallagher is one of Holden’s closest friends and someone he genuinely likes. She is someone who he deems to have a good personality. This quote reveals that she is attentive to the looks of other people and things.
2. This passage reveals that Holden is deeply attentive to the people he cares about even though he seems to be very nonchalant on the outside. His thorough description and understanding of her portrays Holden as someone who does care for others and actually comprehends them well. 1. Allie is shown to be kind and cheerful, always smiling in Holden’s memory. With his red hair, he was someone that really stood out to Holden. The quote shows how he was goofy and lovable.
2. The quote reveals that Allie was someone Holden really cared for. Allie’s death caused for him to experience extreme grief, which is shown by all the windows he broke. His loss left a big enough scar that he had to be psychoanalyzed.
