Apart from the name, I find Jim's character and the poisonous flower woody nightshade to be very similar. Firstly, the colour purple, which I associate with Jim's ambition and curiosity, but also the fact that the flower is so beautiful yet so deadly. I believe the colour that represents Jim is an indigo blue shade. Indigo blue is a fairly dark colour, and Jim's character shows an inclination and fascination by darkness. Jim's character is somewhat isolated and alone in the text, due to his intelligence and deeper understanding of the world. The sun represents warmth, hope and light. Also, the sun follows the night sky bringing hope and light. This is like Will always following Jim bringing hope and light. I think this is because Will is a "soft" character and he is at first oblivious to the darkness that the carnival brings and he is a light person(thus the light yellow).  But as the story progresses, he becomes a bit stronger and can face the challenges presented to him(transforming into a bit of a beige colour). Beige can sometimes mean mature and we see Will maturing over the course of the plot. 
A colour that represents Jim is a dark blue. I think this is best for Jim since he is a bit of a dark character and he is the one who "starts" the story because he makes Will come with him to the carnival. Dark blue also symbolizes confidence and Jim certainly has this. I chose a sky/royal blue colour to represent Will's character as, despite the boys' connections, the key difference in their personalities is their depth and perception of the world around them. The different shades of blue I assigned to each of them represents the differences in their depth. Will has a pleasant outlook on life, and sky-blue is a pleasant, broad colour, but he also doesn't have the dark aspect to his personality that Jim does. My symbol for Jim would be the 'dark side of the moon', because throughout the book, Jim is drawn to darkness and the things that may not be quite clearly safe or legitimate (i.e the calliope). opposite to Will.
Will:
My symbol for Will is the 'light side of the moon,' because while Jim is described as dark, drawn to things that may be unclear or illegitimate, Will seems drawn to light and the things in the light. Things like love and clarity and things that are set and don't waver, like his friendship with Jim.
The two sides are part of a whole, the moon, and when together, have a light that can be seen from earth, but when separated, and mysterious and unsure.

I think a symbol for Will is a flower. I think this because a flower can be oppressed and so can Will. But when it's time comes, then the flower does something amazing. The same is with Will. When the story started, we all saw him as a weak or innocent child, but when the danger came and Jim was gone, Will did something about it. And flowers also represent love and kindness, and Will is a loving and caring character in this story. 
 
 
Jim - 
I think a fitting symbol for Jim is an antelope. I think this because antelopes are free creatures and they do what they want, and so does Jim. Also, they can walk around only minutes after their birth. This relates to Jim because he seems to be a independent individual at this age and he thinks that he doesn't need anyone, he can do it all himself. But antelopes live in groups. Jim is a little like that, he has a best fiend whom he spends lots of time with. Antelopes also represent intelligence and quick thinking in some cultures, and Jim is a quick thinker, and a good one too.

The green represents the fact that he is tempted and that he is ambitious. I also had the idea that he could be a burgundy because he hides some anger about being young. Unfortunately, there isn't a colour that is a mix of both.

The Moon: The moon represents the the tenebrosity of Jim's character. To me it also represents the fact that Jim shines but in a different way to other people and differently to how people expect him to shine. The moon relates to the darkness because it contrasts. Overall, Jim is a very mysterious character but he is still bright in the way that he is intelligent and brave. This is because chairs are not leaders, and tend to follow their table. People lean or sit on them for support. Chairs are also not the first thing that people notice when they walk into the room and do not want to be the centre of attention, just like Will. They are also dependent on their table to help them out. 
The symbol I have chosen to represent Jim is a table. Jim is a table because tables are independent, and do not need the support of anything else to get by. They are natural leaders, and chairs follow them. They are also big and fearless. Tables and chairs which are the two symbols I have chosen for Will and Jim also go really well together, despite their differences.

The colour that is suitable to Will would be a colour similar to gold. The symbol I would use for Will would be the rising sun. I think that this represents Will the best because he has a more positive attitude than Jim and he also have a lot of potential to be successful.
I chose gold as the colour because Will is generally a bright child. However he is still quite imperfect at times.
