Antonio displayed this theme in the first scene, through his attempts at making his power clear to the boatswain, even though the boatswain had all the power in this situation. Antonio told the boatswain "Hang, cur, hang, you whoreson, insolent noisemaker! We are less afraid to be drowned than thou art” (Shakespeare 1.1.44-46). Antonio was trying to make the boatswain feel pitiful, therefore putting Antonio above him in terms of power.

Prospero (Wizard)

Prospero demonstrates this theme through his actions once Miranda sees Ferdinand. His perspective of them possibly falling in love too quickly changes his actions in this scene, telling Miranda that Ferdinand was likely a spy. Prospero told Miranda and Ferdinand that "The name thou ow’st not, and hast put thyself upon this island as a spy, to win it from me, the lord on ’t" (Shakespeare 1.2.548-550). He decides to lock Ferdinand up, so Miranda won't fall in love with him too quickly.
