Social media influencers get their power from posting about themselves and what they do. Jumping on trends or setting them helps propel their power in the social media world because trends act as a form of entertainment and users would eat it up. Parasocial relationships, relationships where one party exerts effort into it while the other party has no idea of the existence of the first party. These relationships are created with social media influencers and their audiences and cause some of their audience to become obsessed as if they have become best friends. Unfortunately, this parasocial relationship helps to drive mental illnesses in children and teens.

When influencers just post the positives of what they are doing this is when issues are created. They create these unrealistic expectations by editing their photos to look a certain way which makes followers feel that this is how they should look. This is what creates these mental health issues. I think it is partially on the influencer but partially on us for believing this is reality.

I don't think it's unfair to say social media influencers negatively impact their followers' mental health, because it's true. When kids see how these famous people look and act, they make this their personal definition of "perfect". When they don't see themselves looking like this they look down on themselves and this can greatly affect kids mental health.

It is not unfair to say that social media influencers negatively impact their audience's mental health. They create an unrealistic example out of themselves that only a small fraction of their audience would ever be able to obtain. Whenever they post a picture, it causes their audience to think that they need to look exactly like this while social media influencers sit there living their best life blissfully unaware of the havoc they are wreaking on their audience.

Seeing this, society starts to encourage the little things that influencers do on social media and then the influence continues which gives them more power to do as they please.
